How Businesses Can Improve Their Accessibility through an Accessibility Statement

If you are in business, you probably have heard about accessibility and the challenges your website may face with complying to the various laws & regulations. Here at govalid, we aim to help solve those issues and others through our platform – one way we are tackling that is through accessibility pages for our clients. These pages are like website development roadmaps but for accessibility and layout upcoming changes, list out how the site is providing accessibility & easy reporting of issues.

Issue Reporting

Our pages are focused on Accessibility and allow easy reporting of issues or conflicts that users may encounter. We employ two ways of reporting (for most clients) one is through a form that has specific fields to allow for easier bug tracing & repairs. The other is a backup email link for simplicity. By providing two methods, we ensure that any user can report their issue/conflict.

Roadmap

Our accessibility roadmap lays out future improvements to the site. For example, let’s say the site is currently having issues with alt tags on images in their ecommerce store, the roadmap will detail when that issue will be repaired. It is a great way to help your consumers stay informed of the upcoming improvements and how willing you are as a business to provide an accessible website.

Additional Details

Lastly, our statements will list out various ways in which the site is currently deploying tools to make the site more accessible. For example, under audio we could have listed amazon alexa voice for all blog posts or ai transcripts for videos. This will help consumers know how they can consume your content in various ways. Sometimes businesses see this as a hassle but by embracing the accessibility side of your website you are not only allowing for great reach buy a better user experience for everyone. One example is how audio social sites have been expanding over the past year yet the technology to add audio to your blog posts has been around for years and podcasts for even longer – people who do not have disabilities are constantly looking for new ways to consume your content.

We encourage everyone to find ways to be more transparent about their attempts at being an accessible website. Our accessibility statement pages will be going live in July 2021. If you need help with your website’s accessibility compliance or general site compliance, reach out and we would be happy to provide a free trial or demonstration.
